We read the natal chart from the ascendant, moon, and sun. When reviewing the basic chart details we utilize an additional chart called the Navamsha (marriage or spiritual chart). This provides great information about relationships and related spiritual growth. We have the ability to draw upon over 60 charts to review specific areas of life in depth.

The Nakshatras are a vital part of chart interpretation. In Sanskrit, nakshatra means “star”. There are 2 1/2 nakshatra's in every sign and as the moon moves through the chart we can see the influence of the nakshatras on a daily basis. We combine this information with the nodal axis and many details about karma are revealed.

Examination of the Vimshottari (planetary cycle) is important in prediction. Each planet offers a cycle - a dominance in life and the outcome is directly tied to the natural and functional nature of the planet. Each cycle has sub-cycles and these aid in predicting events.

    Eastern Astrology: Uses the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual, visible star constellations in the night sky. It tracks their true astronomical positions. The Navy uses the sidereal system to track the positions of Naval Ships.

  • There are many differences, here are the main ones:

    1. The measurement of time:

    Vedic Astrology calculates using Sidereal time; measuring time based on the rotation of the Earth with respect to fixed stars.

    Western Astrology calculates using Tropical time; measuring time by the angle of the Sun, and its apparent movement across the celestial equator.

    2. Acknowledgement of planetary bodies:

    Traditionally, Vedic Astrology acknowledges the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and the nodes (shadow planets) Rahu and Ketu.

    The Western system adds Neptune, Pluto, Uranus and asteroids. Does not use the south node (Ketu), and seems to place less emphasis on the nodal influence.

    3. Sacred Texts:

    Vedic Astrology is an ancient and time honored tradition in India. Vedic astrologers are able to draw on and reference many sacred texts to learn astrology.

    4. Astrology system focus:

    Western astrology is focused on trends (society) and how the individual projects themselves in their environment.

    Vedic astrology takes a holistic approach. The focus is on the spiritual development of an individual, bringing the physical life into harmony with the spiritual self. This is done by examining areas of life and identifying strengths and potential challenges. Timing life events like marriage, having children, purchasing property and opening a business etc. The idea is through wholeness we can achieve happiness, good health and abundance.

  • Equinox is when the Sun crosses the celestial equator. This happens twice a year marking the beginning of Spring and Fall. At this time, the days are about equal in length.

    Solstice is when the Sun is at its highest or lowest point to the celestial equator, marking the beginning of Summer and Winter. Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and Winter Solstice is the longest night.
