Pathways & the Power of Names
Glastonbury Tor, UK | 2023
Celestial Pathways supports and celebrates that there are multiple pathways to living, healing, and awakening. Everyone is unique and comes to the table with their own set of experiences that have shaped who they are, what they stand for, and what works best for them. When Angela and I were working on naming our business, we gave it a lot of thought and engaged in deep conversation about how we wanted to name it. This process took months. (I think the hardest part is finding the right name, really!) First off, most everything is taken when you start diving into the naming process. It is challenging to come up with a unique name today. Even more so to come up with a unique name that has deep meaning.
Names hold great power and energy, and if you do not know the meaning of your full name, I encourage you to research this. I used this process as an ice-breaker exercise with students when teaching Spirituality & Addiction. Research the meaning of your first, middle (if you have one) and last name to determine their individual meanings and then tie them all together. It is amazing to see the unique connections that our full name holds! I had no idea about the meaning of my full name when I was given this assignment by my teacher and dear friend, Andrew Steed. I found it to be quite empowering to discover the meaning of my name, and I hope you do too!
As I reflected on the meaning of my own name, something deeper began to unfold. It wasn’t just a collection of definitions—it felt more like a map. A quiet blueprint of qualities, themes, and lessons that have shown up throughout my life in ways I hadn’t fully recognized before. In many ways, our names can act as an energetic doorway—an invitation into understanding the unique pathway we are here to walk. Not a rigid script, but a gentle orientation… a remembering. And just like our names, no two pathways are ever the same.
This is part of what inspired the name Celestial Pathways. “Celestial” speaks to something greater—something expansive, wise, and deeply connected beyond what we can always see. And “Pathways” honors the truth that there is no single route to healing, growth, or awakening. Brought together, the name reflects a belief we hold at our core: that each person is guided in their own way, at their own pace, along a path that is uniquely theirs.
Our role is not to place anyone on a path, but to walk alongside them as they discover their own. Whether someone is just beginning to explore spirituality or has been immersed in their personal growth journey for years, we meet them exactly where they are—without expectation and without judgment. Because every pathway, no matter how winding, uncertain, or well-traveled, is worthy of respect, support, and care.
So perhaps the question isn’t, “Am I on the right path?” but rather, “Am I listening to what my path is trying to show me?” Your name, your experiences, your inner knowing—these are not random. They are threads. And when you begin to follow them with curiosity and compassion, a pathway reveals itself… one that has been yours all along.
